The Hamilton Project were commissioned to manage a public art project in Whitefield Park on behalf of Bury Council.
The team managed all aspects of the project, from developing the brief through to recruiting and managing the artist. The Artist, David Appleyard, worked with various groups involved with the park, to develop an idea around creating a group of ‘fancy birds’ to be installed in various locations around the park, some individually and some in flocks.
The colours of the birds reflected the colours used by a sweet factory located close to the park.
The project attracted the attention of local residents with requests for birds on their houses adjacent to the park.
The artworks will feature as part of the 33 mile Irwell Sculpture Trail.
